Bhumi Pednekar’s New York Fashion Week debut put the story of her lehenga directly on the skirt. Closing Nazranaa’s Samskriti 2.0 show on 16 September, she wore a deep maroon velvet ensemble inspired by the Sri Ramakrishna Temple at Belur Math, with the label placing a symbolic swan at its centre.

The skirt carries most of the visual information: dense hand embroidery, shimmering details and a large central motif against dark velvet. Nazranaa says the swan represents the Paramatman, or Supreme Self, in Swami Vivekananda’s emblem. Belur Math itself describes the temple as blending Eastern and Western architectural styles and expressing a broader idea of harmony. The cultural source stays concentrated instead of scattering across every layer.
What keeps the runway look contemporary is the contrast around that heavily worked skirt. Bhumi’s fitted blouse has a deep sweetheart neckline and thin straps, leaving a clean expanse above the embroidery. A sheer net veil, finished with scalloped lotus details, is wrapped around the arms and trails like a cape. The lighter layers give the velvet room to remain the visual anchor.
